Friends here are my selections for the opening day of Bangalore summer season.
Race 1:
1.LAD KING (5)
2. MAGNOMICAL (9)
3. CASH THE CHEQUE (7)
The only worry with LAD KING is , he is running first time after gelding. If Lad King fails or ridden tenderly, then either Magnomical or Cash The Cheque might pull it off.
Race 2:
1.SHAHRAAN (1)
2. GOLD VENTURE (8)
3. DANCING EMERALDS (5)
Distance suits Shahraan the best. Gold venture needs longer. Dancing Emeralds needs to improve but it is not beyond her.
Race 3:
1.SOURAB (11)
2. FRUIT KING (1)
3. SPLENDID DANCER (7)
Sourab has the best credentials. But it is a million dollar question that the stable permit her to run on merits.
Race 4:
1.ADMIRAL (1)
2. GUN SALUTE (7)
3. SEVEN HEAVEN (2)
Despite the stiff handicap Admiral should win.
Race 5:
1.LOVELY KISS (11)
2. SILKEN TOUCH (12)
3. PREORDAINED (6)
All the three horses are closely matched. Even MIGROLINO (10) is capable of upsetting. Jackpot hunters cannot afford to leave out any of the 4 horses in this leg.
Race 6:

3. CARLA (5)
SIRONO is my DAYS BEST. Classic Charge may be a good place bet.
Race 7:

Gun Powder has everything going for him to emerge victorius. North Cape needs more ground.
Race 8:

But for SIRONO in the 5th race I would have nominated DANCERELLA as my Days Best. Has an outstanding chance of winning. Castro needs to improve in my assessment.

Even though everything points to a win for BOUNTY HUNTER, a 3 YO rated to run in Class V does not inspire confidence. But the company is so poor, he gets nominated by default. Wise Punters may do well not to wager in this race.

2. RIGHT ON TIME(7)
3. UNIQUE SHOW (9)
Distance suits INTRIGUE the best. FREE STYLER needs longer. RIGHT ON TIME is right there, needs to improve but it is not beyond her. There are a couple of first timers who can make it. Of them OPTIMUS ZONE & SAYYONEE may have the capability to extend INTRIGUE.

3. PURPLE GLOW (5)
AFRICAN QUEEN & BEN TEN are closely matched. I shall go with AFRICAN QUEEN whose dam Afrodita has produced a Derby winner.

MYSTIC DAWN & CITRALI are way ahead of the opposition. MYSTIC DAWN gets the preference over CITRALI, only because of uncertainty associated with Puttana’s stable.

CAMORRA looks better in every way. ASTOUNDING GALLOP has changed stables and he is to be closely watched.

No selections. MIGHTY HEART & HATSUHAANA are looking good on calculation, but they lack experience in terms races. Default contenders are D’ARTAGNAN, TOMSK & KYLES OF BUTE.

CROWN EMPRESS looks outstanding and is my DAYS BEST BET.

MOVES GOODENOUGH gets an outstanding opportunity in this race. RECHARGED is closely matched but relegated 2nd choice on Jockey merit. JUNO & DUCHESS OF YORK may be fancied on Trainer/Jockey merit but I for one is not impressed.

2. MAN DOWN UNDER (6)
3. BLACK BEAUTY (8)/GOOD GIFT (12)
No one will take my word, if I say TAKE MY WORD has got the best credentials in this set. I for one would not attempt to wager in this race as winner picking is not easy.

HERE ARE MY SELECTIONS FOR May 21st 2011.
Race 1.: NO SELECTIONS.
Punters would do well to choose their bets, if any, after assessing the fitness and coat during the paddock parade. A maiden 3 Y old is almost always for me a race just to watch. Wise Punters may do well not to wager in this race.
Race2: 1. Waikato, 2. Mountain View, 3. Shades Of Scarlet
Waikato looks heads and shoulder above every other runner in this field. Should canter.
Race3: 1. Caraway, 2. Delta Delight, 3. Grand Success
Even though this is also a Maiden 3YO set, I am getting the impression that Caraway’s relative experience might help her to put it across others.
Race4: 1. Nearness Of You, 2. Mountain Range 3. Silver Springs
Nearness Of You has clocked Class II timing (1.13.75) for 1200 M, when she came out of maiden ranks. It is quite baffling how the handicapper has let it remain in Class IV! Silver Springs might place in this set. Arrow in Auto Mode may be ridden tenderly as this is his first run after gelding.
Race 5: 1. Balmoral Castle, 2. Berlusconi, 3. Oban
Balmoral Castle is in my opinion more talented than Berlusconi. Even though she likes it longer, she should assert her class in no uncertain terms.
Race 6: 1. Free Law 2. Win Again 3. Colour Of Money
Free Law is another horse which has clocked Class II timing (1.13.90) when it came 2nd behind last weeks runaway winner “Lovely Kiss” in the same class. Free Law gets my vote for the DAYS BEST tag.
Race7: 1. Karisini 2. Allez Vite 3. Sky Diver
Karisini is the best herein. The only worry is whether the whip less rider will be able to weather the punch of Niall Callow astride Allez Vite. If he rides a good race Karisini should win by atleast 2 lengths.
Race 8: 1. Parliament Square 2. Super Saloni 3. Summer Sun
Last week I had commented," a 3 YO rated to run in Class V does not inspire confidence”. I did some research of the results of Class V races and found out that the 3YO’s are after all better than the older horses. Most of the winners are from 3YO’s and they carried a wt of 60Kg or above.
Days Best: FREE LAW (6-9)
Double: WAIKATO (2-1) NEARNESS OF YOU (4-3)
